The Skyhawks Coaching Philosophy

The Skyhawks coaching staff are expected to help identify, develop and train athletes and leaders under the long-term athlete development model for higher levels of competition at school and in regional and provincial competition.

Their goals are to:

• provide all players with the opportunity to improve their basketball and athletic skills,
• lead by example, committed to sportsmanship and the principles of Basketball Ontario ’s Fair Play,
• emphasize the importance of teamwork while building self-esteem, confidence, respect and leadership skills for life,
• provide a safe, non-threatening and fun environment for personal growth,
• reward effort, teamwork, fair play and commitment,
• provide for the enjoyment of the game building a lifelong passion for the sport,
• maintain their required coaching certification and commit to continuous coaching development,
• recognize and respect the unique differences in each athlete,
• teach respect for the rules, officials, coaches, players and parents,
• ensure that all players conduct themselves as good citizen’s of Burlington Skyhawks and the City of Burlington,
• honour the game and always work to contribute to it’s betterment, and
• impart ‘Play Hard, Play Smart, Play Together and Have Fun’ wisdom.
