Volunteers from the Skyhawks Major Bantam team were out helping young Burlington community “bankers” with their pumpkin decorating creativity at the Dundas and Appleby RBC branch on Saturday, October 29th.

Branch Manager, Debbie Lewczuk, a big supporter of community, hosted the event giving the Skyhawks an opportunity to profile the rep and Steve Nash programs.

Thanks go to our volunteers from left to right: #12 Emily Giglia, #15 Olivia Choma, #4 Stefani Whiteman, #23 Idah Clementino, #10 Ali Mandrak.  And of course big thanks go to Debbie Lewczuk for offering this wonderful opportunity to get our club profile out into the community!

The full story will be available in December’s issue of “SNAP Burlington”, which can be  found at local grocery stores, restaurants, etc.

  • 2011/11/14 - BurlOak Centre Dentistry - Special Skyhawk Offer on Mouthguards

Mouthguards are becoming an essential piece of equipment for the basketball player.  Protecting the athletes head, jaw and teeth, even for seemingly non-contact sports is vitally important.

To quote Dr. Ian McConnachie, a pediatric dentist and former president of the Ontario Dental Association, “Mouthguards not only protect the teeth, they may also prevent concussions and other serious injuries by helping to avoid situations where the lower jaw and teeth are forced up against the upper teeth and jaw".

Sports Canada reports that overall, 69 percent of Canadian youth participate in organized sport.  In any sport, whether it’s full contact hockey or a friendly game of racquetball, a little preparation can prevent costly and sometimes painful mistakes later on.

Who should where a mouthguard?  Anyone playing contact sport or engaging in aggressive activities.

Any sport with a strong chance for contact with other participants or hard surfaces requires mouth protection.  Players who participate in basketball should wear mouthguards when practicing and competing.

Knowing that many athletes resist wearing a mouthguard because of bulkiness and poor fit, Burlington Hoops Basketball Club and BurlOak Centre Dentistry located in the Riocan Centre Burloak have entered into partnership to provide our Skyhawk athletes with custom-made mouthguards that are comfortable, non-bulky and form-fitting.  For maximum comfort and protection, the dentist must address the individual athletes specific needs when fitting him/her for the mouthguard: size of mouth, bite, type of sport played, braces or other appliances.

BurlOak Centre Dentistry is offering the Skyhawks a great deal of only $60.00 for a custom-made mouthguard. Take advantage of this great offer by booking an appointment on Saturday, November 26th or Saturday, December 3rd by calling 905-847-6677.
